ANTE NATAL AND POST NATAL PILATES
Our equipment-based Pilates is ideal for pregnant women and for women after they have given birth.
The Studio’s specialised equipment gives you extra support as your body changes during pregnancy. Once the baby arrives many women want to get back to normal quickly. The spring resistance in our equipment helps you achieve results fast, and safely.
Ante Natal Pilates
When you are expecting a baby, it is important to stay strong and fit.
Pilates is a great choice of exercise because it focuses on the muscles in the abdominal area, the back and the pelvic floor. These muscles have to work very hard during pregnancy and birth. Keeping these muscles strong helps immensely while carrying your baby, and when you give birth.
Having strong abdominal, back and pelvic floor muscles will also help you to recover more quickly after your baby has been born.
We recommend that you are at least 14 weeks pregnant before joining our ante-natal Pilates exercise programme.
Every woman is different so at Horsham Pilates Studio the exercises are designed especially for you. You can choose one-to-one sessions or join a small group (maximum 3). Your exercises will be adapted to suit the changing shape of your body as your pregnancy progresses.
Always check with your doctor before commencing any exercise programme during pregnancy.
Post Natal Pilates
Pilates exercise will help you regain strength in your pelvic floor and core muscles after birth. It will help improve your posture too, which is super important now you have a baby to carry around and feed.
Diastasis Recti or Abdominal Separation
Many women experience Diastisis Recti, or abdominal separation, after birth. This means they are left with a gap between the two halves of their rectus abdominas muscle.
We can guide you through a programme of corrective exercise to repair this and to restore your abdominal strength and pelvic stability. This will also help to alleviate the lower back pain which so many new mothers experience.
Medical Approved Required
You should wait until you have had your six-week medical check before starting an exercise programme. If you have experienced any complications when giving birth check with your doctor if Pilates is appropriate for you.
